When we saw the 380 Trainer effortlessly climb out in our high mountain air, we knew we had a winner. Why an electric trainer? Lots of reasons. First of all is the reliability, ease and performance of today's electric powered airplanes. A first time flyer has enough to think about just flying his new model. It is almost unfair to ask a beginner to also master the art of starting, breaking-in and tuning your typical glow engine. Nothing is sadder than watching a plane go down because of lack of power from an improperly tuned engine. With electric power, the engine starts instantly every time and is always tuned for full power - on the hottest, most humid summer day or in the depths of winter when glow engines are almost impossible to start. In addition, electric motors are QUIET, which means that you can fly your 380 Trainer in fields close to home without disturbing the neighbors. (They probably won't even know you're there). Our favorite reason to fly electric though is that electric flight is clean. No more wiping off that oily gook from your model after a days flying session. Compare an electric model to a glow powered model after each has had 100 flights. The electric model will look almost brand new. Like any other beginner's model, the 380 Trainer is stable, predictable and rugged. Smaller in size than your typical trainer, the 380 Trainer is easy to transport and store. Perfect for keeping in your trunk for those lunchtime or after work flying sessions. But, the 380 Trainer is still big enough to penetrate the wind and is big enough to be easy to see even when you have it so high it's a mere speck in the sky. One more reason why electric power is so perfect for a trainer - the ability to completely shut down the engine while flying. Not only is it just plain old fun but also when a beginner gets in trouble, the best thing to do is to slow that plane down. Nothing is slower than gliding with the engine off which often gives the beginner time to catch up to the airplane, regain his composure and continue the flight. A 380 electric motor with gearbox and prop are included in the 380 Trainer (and not some cheap easily stripped plastic gear box, but a rugged all metal gear gearbox). Also includes a full hardware package containing US sized spinner, wheels, steerable tailwheel, pushrods and linkages. The model is already pre-covered in genuine Sig AeroKote in an eye catching, high visibility design Requires: 6-7 cell battery and charger. Wingspan: 44.8" Length: 34.5" Wing Area: 313.6 sq. in.
